	In all the times / Ed Biro (stepson of Fred Billings ) I had the pleasure of being around Richard, I was struck by his gregarious and jovial nature. He seemed to be a man who reveled in the simple act of sharing with others, which in today's socially disjointed world has become a lost art. I will not forget how he lifted spirits at gatherings with a smile and a turn of a phrase. I also remember that he was a person who reflected and thought deeply about the world within and without. His passing causes me to pause, and to remember that without humor and joy the world is a very lonely place. Close

	For my brother Richard / Frederick Billings (Brother) I am grateful to have an older brother like Richard. He is someone who taught by example and overcame things in life that others might view as obstacles. He was a supportive and kind brother who took a leadership role in our family after the early death of our father when he returned from WWII. Before the war began Richard was always busy helping our grandfather by delivering produce to the houses on the hill in Seal Harbor. I will always remember the time when he left for the service in the Air Corps-we had no sink in the Seal Harbor bathroom and when he returned home the first thing he did was put in a sink. Later on came the back door on our house for safety and convenience. Richard and other returning veterans put to use their new expertise with the use of earth moving equipment to make a skating rink for all of us in Seal Harbor to enjoy. This was an improvemnet from the other skating rink that was located inconveniently in the woods near Dane's Farm. Later in life he took advantage of his land in Augusta, Maine which appeared to resemble a dish and made a bountiful and impressive garden for all to view. He and Jill grew vegetables like cauliflower and would store the veggies in the most inventive locations. We are all lucky to have known Richard. All my best, Fred (and NoelAnn) Close

	I Salute Richard... / Chris Biro (Fred Billings stepson ) Richard Billings will be forever linked to Seal Harbor and many points beyond. When I think of Richard, I see a young adult flying in airplanes during the war. Like many of his peers, the experience of war left a lasting reminder of the values of friendship, sacrifice, honor, and most of all, life itself. Richard embodied these values in the way he lived his life. I salute Richard and honor him in prayer. Close

	A very good humored man / Blaine Horne (Former Business Associate ) I had the privilege of working with Dick in the insurance business in Augusta back in the 80's and early 90's. He was knowledgeable of the business and always had his customers best interests in mind. We were both raised on the coast of Maine and shared lots of laughs trading boating and fishing stories. He was quick witted and just a fun guy to be around. Close

	An Inspiration fot Notaries Public in Maine / Sherry Tibbetts (Fellow Notary Public ) I met Dick when I joined this new group starting up - The Informed Notaries of Maine back in 1994. Dick gave freely of himself to the group and worked hard to get us organized and going. He did a great service to all Notaries Public and he was fun to work with. He made us all enjoy what we were doing and to have fun while we made progress. He was clearly an inspiration and I am proud to have had the chance to work with him. Close

	Dick was a great advocate of Notary Education in Maine / Tim Poulin (Colleague) I first met Dick in 1996 and during the next 3 + years, Dick and I traveled around the state doing Notary education workshops for the Informed Notaries of Maine. Dick was a founding member of INM as well as its first Executive Director. Without Dick, INM would have never got going, stay going and turned into the fine organization it is today. Dick was truly one of a kind and his energy and enthusiasm for INM was evident...always. On many trips into all parts of Maine, Dick would share many of his life stories...and I listened intently...and learned alot too. When Dick finally decided it was time to move on from working with INM, I know he did it out of love and a desire for INM to move forward. He related this to raising a child...eventually you have to cut the apron strings and see if what you have taught the child will make it successful. INM is thriving and successful because of what Dick taught the folks still involved when Dick moved on. Thank you, Dick for your love of INM and giving it wings to fly. And thank you, Dick for your friendship during our work together on notary education. Tim Poulin Close
